Proposed Project in Goole
In Your Corner is a fresh approach to engaging with challenging and vulnerable young people aged 9-19. The project is focused around a strong Boxing ethos of self-discipline, respect, self-belief, physical and a positive mental health along with the support of a Boxing Coach/ Assistant youth worker & a dedicated Youth link worker (provided by GYA). Sessions will take place at Goole Amateur Boxing Club gym, during weekday afternoons / early evenings for small groups of five young people on a eight week course to include; boxing skills, fitness, healthy lifestyles eating & cooking, life skills, first aid. Five groups of young people will benefit over a year period.
At the core will be a weekly session at the Boxing club, then follow up one-to-one sessions during the week with the youth link worker an Assistant youth worker. Those targeted to be involved in the project will be young people who are already committing ASB / those on the on the cusp of committing ASB and those young people suffering poor mental health which could lead to them into committing ASB behaviour.
The youth link worker will liaise the young person, family members and referral partners to ensure that services are co-ordinated around the young person whilst they are on and then exit the project.
We think this is a good project but want to know if local people think that it addresses the issues in their local area and should be funded.Click here to register your vote. Voting closes on 26th February.
