The public health approach (PHA) to violence prevention seeks to improve the health and safety of all individuals by addressing underlying risk factors that increase the likelihood that an individual will become a victim or a perpetrator of violence…. to provide the maximum benefit for the largest number of people.

Purpose of the Strategic Board:To bring together key strategic partners, Heads of service and specialist practitioners to work collaboratively in applying a public health approach to prevention of domestic abuse[i] across our four local authority areas in Humberside: East Riding, Hull, North & North-East Lincolnshire.
Shared Vision: This is an opportunity to locate Domestic abuse within the wider framework of Serious Violence; there are clear links between ‘public’ and ‘private’ violence and abuse; including how harm experienced in the home by children and young people has a severe impact on their health, wellbeing, and development. PHADA has the aim of applying a public health methodology to adult victims, perpetrators of domestic abuse and the children affected by it, over a substantial period, taking into account historical domestic abuse and its links to intergenerational risk.
Objectives:
- Work in partnership to support the development of a multi-agency public health approach to domestic abuse across the Humber area.
- Support the partnership through the sharing of data, best practice, and resources.
- Collaborate to identify sustainable intervention opportunities that further a public health approach.
- Share expertise, knowledge, and skills to support the PHADA purpose to grow the evidence base.
