On Friday we received the appalling news of the killing of MP Sir David Amess, my thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues. Tragically we have been here before with the senseless murder of Jo Cox MP in 2016, both were attacks on our democracy and targeted people who were doing their duty as public servants.
Humberside Police have made contact with all local Members of Parliament to review safety measures and will do whatever is necessary to enable them and their staff to carry out work in their constituencies to serve their residents.
Violence can never be justified in a democracy regardless of anyone’s political beliefs and we must all unite to condemn aggression and hate, it is completely unacceptable.
