Commissioner comments on the National Policing Uplift

Today the Home Office have released their latest update on a national uplift in Police Officer numbers, which highlights that Humberside Police are well on track to meeting the targeted increase of 97 officer by March 2021.

Police and Crime Commissioner Keith Hunter said: "I am pleased to see officer numbers increase in Humberside as part of the national uplift. The force now has over 2000 police officers compared with 1550 funded posts in 2016 when I took office. This has allowed them to effectively police the area and provide a force that the people of Humberside should be proud of.

“I would like to congratulate the Chief Constable and the force for their continuing efforts in recruiting these officers. Logistically it has been a challenge, but they have ensured that those recruited have been of excellent quality and training and phased rollout of new staff has benefited all areas of Humberside. Efficient management of finance enabled us to increase numbers substantially prior to the Government uplift, which has assisted the force now with its capacity to deal with the additional stresses of Covid 19.

“It is fair to say that Humberside Police is now almost unrecognisable in terms of size and capability from the force I inherited in 2016. It is now seen as a really effective and efficiently performing force in many areas and one that many other forces looking to learn from.”
