Extra Officers join Hull city centre team

The first wave of extra officers have joined the Hull city centre Community Policing Team last week and will be on duty to support residents, retailers, businesses and visitors in the area - which is the busiest in terms of policing demand in Humberside Police force area.

The new officers - two Sergeants and four Police Constables – are part of extra resource announced by the Police and Crime Commissioner Keith Hunter and Chief Constable Justine Curran in September. CLICK HERE to read the story

A further three Police Constables are going to be joining the team in the coming months, along with 10 new Police Community Support Officers who are due to start on Monday 28 November.

Inspector Kirsty Tock from the Hull Central Community Policing said: “I am delighted to welcome extra officers and staff into the team to bolster the already excellent community policing taking place and build upon the good partnerships we have develop with various agencies including Hull City Council, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service and Hull BID.

“The city centre is a unique area with numerous challenges that come with a big city – a high concentration of retailers and licensed premises, a hub for transport, numerous places of interest to visit and numerous events taking place. These additional officers and staff will help us meet these challenges and tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in the area.

“Community policing is all about being a visible presence in the neighbourhoods – engaging with public and spending time on the beat – the new members of the team along with the use of mobile devices to reduce time in police buildings and the use of social media allow us to do this even more effectively.

"Since the announcement that Hull would be the UK City of Culture 2017 I have seen a noticeable increase in visitors to the city asking the team for directions to the various attractions or events taking place. This is likely to continue and this uplift will enable us to cater for this extra demand and playing our part in supporting the city in making the most of City of Culture status."

Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Keith Hunter said: “I’m delighted the first additional officers and PCSO’s made possible from releasing funding reserves are about to hit the streets.I will do everything possible to identify any opportunities to get extra funding for more officers, PCSO’s and staff. It’s what the public tell me they want and my job is to try and deliver that.”
